A La Carte & Art Embraces "Zero Waste" Policy

The Mountain View Central Business Association will once again partner with Recology Mountain View and the City of Mountain View to promote and encourage Zero Waste at A La Carte & Art, May 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Castro Street.

recycle"Every day we talk about ways to reduce, re-use, and recycle,” said Julie Smiley, Executive Director of the Central Business Association. "We’re on a mission to make this a Zero Waste festival — it’s a big priority for us and something we diligently plan for and try to improve every year.”

The festival has taken steps to make it easier than ever for festivalgoers and vendors to conserve resources by conscientiously recycling. Free-standing containers will be positioned throughout the festival route for recycling glass and plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Additionally, there will be large recycling containers for cardboard and mixed paper as well as glass, plastic and aluminum in strategic locations for event staff, vendors and sponsors. Beer, margaritas and mojitos will be served in recyclable plastic cups (as well as in festival glassware). "It’s our goal to make sure we’re doing everything possible to maximize recycling and minimize waste,” said Smiley.

Recology Mountain View"We’re delighted and pleased to partner with the Central Business Association and appreciate the concerted effort they’ve made,” said Kevin Chiapello, Recology Mountain View General Manager. "It fits in with our efforts to create a sustainable community, will help to promote recycling and will reduce the amount of garbage placed in landfills.”

The festival is also encouraging the use of public transportation, bicycles and car pools to minimize carbon emissions and reduce vehicular traffic. Downtown Mountain View is served by VTA Light Rail and Bus service as well as Caltrain. The transit center drops riders off at the festival "doorstep”.

Recology Mountain View is an employee-owned company providing curbside collection recycling and garbage service to residents of the City of Mountain View. The company also provides Mountain View businesses with commercial collection and recycling and debris box service. For additional information, please go to http://www.recologymountainview.com.
