Festival Season Springs Into Action!

Downtown Mountain View’s A La Carte & Art Kicks-Off the Bay Area’s Outdoor Festival Season, May 1-2
With Two Days of World-Class Art, Music, Food and Drink, Family Fun and a Special Salute to Cinco de Mayo!

Mountain View arts and crafts festivalWhat a fantastic time of year! Baseball season is underway but it’s definitely not the not only beloved American pastime springing into action. The Bay Area’s popular outdoor festival season officially kicks into gear on May 1-2 in downtown Mountain View where cool, bustling, stroll-friendly Castro Street is transformed into a delightfully resplendent sea of feel-good people and colorful tents for the 24th A La Carte & Art. Large crowds are expected to gather for downtown Mountain View’s beloved springtime festival of the arts as we welcome and honor Cinco de Mayo.

Presented by the Mountain View Central Business Association, the popular open-air festival will feature two days of stellar live music on stage and street throughout downtown, a juried arts and crafts show with 200 of the west coast’s top artists showing their latest handcrafted wares, fabulous food and drink with premium fine wine, refreshing craft beer, artisan specialty food makers, health and wellness displays, an organic and green products showcase, home and garden exhibits, A La Car & Art – the big classic car show sponsored by Hot San Jose Nights, the uniquely groovy What’s Up Photo Booth, Cornhole Tossing Corner, Stay Cool Misting Tent, T-Mobile Showroom and Recharging Station, a host of captivating kids’ amusements in the Super Duper Funzone, awesome sponsor swag giveaways and free samples of White Claw Hard Seltzer and Cascadian Farm Protein Bars. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Admission is free.

How It All Began

A La Carte & Art is the largest annual fund-raiser for the Mountain View Central Business Association (CBA). A non-profit organization made up of local merchants and businesses, the CBA is dedicated to promoting business growth through participation and sponsorship of numerous community activities and events.

Smashing Entertainment on the Facebook Community Music Stage

Get ready for two lively, fun-filled days of world-class entertainment on the Facebook Community Music Stage and throughout downtown. Enjoy a smashing array of big name bands playing classic rock ‘n roll, rhythm and blues, contemporary country, folksy Americana, jazz, dance and party music. The entertainment lineup for 2021 is yet to be announced. Follow us on Facebook to the be first to hear! Admission is free. Presented by the Mountain View Central Business Association.

Pacific Fine Arts brings its world-class stable of professional artists and fine craftmakers to showcase their extraordinary work. Festivalgoers will find thousands of beautiful, handcrafted items by the west coast’s top artists and craftmakers while browsing among 200 well-stocked booths featuring original work in glass, ceramics, metals, fiber, leather, wood, jewelry, and fine art. Exquisite vases, flatware, clocks, dishes, wall and table decorations, paperweights, stained and beveled glass, etchings, sculptures, photography, oil and watercolor paintings, beadwork, gold and silver jewelry, vests, handbags, hats, wallets, footwear, windchimes, and waterfalls will be among the one-of-a-kind items available.

Festival eateries will be serving up a festive array of deelish fare—handmade tamales filled with a choice of chicken, beef, pork, ancho chiles and cheese, veggies, sweet corn, farm-fresh chicken — wings and boneless “chicky bites”— comes with a choice of 22 sauces, such as sweet wasabi, lemon pepper, honey walnut and ginger-sesame, pita filled with grilled chicken, lamb or falafel, crispy lettuce, juicy tomatoes and tzatziki; fresh roasted corn-on-the cob, baked potatoes; cheese, spinach, mushroom, ham, bacon and fresh fruit made-to-order crepes; skewers of teriyaki chicken with rice or noodles; tri-tip sandwiches, giant turkey legs, jumbo hot dogs, Portobello mushroom sandwiches, crispy artichokes and zucchini; tender calamari or crab fries, corndogs, garlic fries; chicken and pork kebabs with jasmine rice; fish and chips, calamari, shrimp, oysters, fried chicken, and funnel cakes; fresh gaspacho-inspired mango and strawberry-on-a-stick sprinkled with chili powder, lime juice and salt; Kona shave ice in 12 flavors, savory soft serve ice cream, root beer floats and freshly-popped kettlecorn.

Beer lovers will be in hops heaven with the assortment of world-class brews from DBI Beverage –– Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Firestone 805, Ballast Point Longfin Lager and Fathom IPA plus festivalgoers can enjoy refreshing, low-carb, gluten-free White Claw Hard Seltzer. For aficionados of fine wine and bubbly, there will be a premium selection of tasty, easy-drinking varietals. Kids of all ages will be mesmerized by the non-stop excitement in the action-packed Super Duper Funzone. Ultra thrilling bungee jump, wild and wacky waterballerz, a 24’ rock climbing wall, caricature art, sand art creative cards, super cool face painting, henna body art, glitter tattoos, kids clothing and toys are among the awesome attractions sure to keep youngsters entertained.

SRTA La Car & Art, A Showcase of Cool Cars

Back by popular demand is A La Car & Art, a classic, exotic and custom car show presented by Mike Hennessy, organizer of Hot San Jose Nights and host of the Car Guy Channel. Hennessy’s passionate, car-loving devotees will be showing an incredible array of custom hot rods, muscle cars, sleek sports cars, and tricked out low riders –– just a sampling of the cars expected to be on display. A La Car & Art promises to be a lively, family-friendly atmosphere filling a full city block on Castro Street between Church and Mercy Streets.

Zero Waste

The Central Business Association, Recology Mountain View and City of Mountain View will be joining forces once again to promote and encourage Zero Waste. Specially marked free-standing containers will be positioned throughout the festival pedestrian route for recycling glass, plastic, aluminum, paper and cardboard, as well as for composting food scraps, paper plates, bio-degradable cups, chopsticks, skewers and napkins. There will be large recycling and compost containers in strategic behind-the-scenes locations for event staff, vendors and sponsors to utilize. Festival organizers are also encouraging the use of public transit, bicycles and car pools to cut down carbon emissions and vehicular traffic.

Public Transportation

Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will be running its normal weekend schedule with Bus and Light Rail service to Downtown Mountain View. Ride VTA Light Rail (exit at the Mountain View Transit Center) or VTA Bus Lines 22, 32, 35, 81 and 522 to the Festival. Please note: Bus Line 32 does not operate on Sundays. Caltrain, VTA Light Rail and bus service drops riders off at the Mountain View transit center, the primary festival entrance at Evelyn Avenue and Castro Street.

Street Closures/Vehicle Parking

Castro Street will be closed to traffic from Church Street to Evelyn Avenue for the two-day festival. There is ample free parking available on streets and in lots surrounding the downtown area.

No Pets, Please

Pets are not encouraged at the festival. Please be considerate. For the safety, comfort, and courtesy of your pets and festival-goers, please leave your pets at home. Large crowds and noise make it a very stressful and dangerous environment for pets.

The festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Castro Street from Church Street to Evelyn Avenue. Admission is free.
